Preamble
Number 11 Quay Street is a very lovely, Grade II listed, Georgian town house, believed to date from around 1706. It is located in Newport, the "capital" town of the Isle of Wight. This is an idyllic corner of England - a beautiful location, just a couple of minutes from the town centre and yet within a 20 minute drive of some of the stunning, unspoilt beaches for which the island is known. Yarmouth lies approximately 15 minutes' drive to the west, Bembridge about 20 minutes to the east, and Cowes can be reached within 10 minutes.
The House

This really is the sort of house you either love, or you don't. It's not perfect, the ceilings sag in places, none of the corners are right-angles, but it's warm and welcoming, has a wonderful atmosphere, is steeped in history, has floorboards of the most amazing hue, walls which are approx. 18 inches thick, deep windowsills, tiny bricks in places, more than 300 years old, some original glass (we haven't actually counted how many panes are original and how many are not), original sash windows, simply loads of space, and situated in one of the most convenient locations imaginable.
