Bedroom two is the only other room on the
first floor and lies facing the rear of the house, on the opposite side
of the stairways to Bedroom one. This is another large, pleasant room,
with the same beautiful old floorboards and a tall sash window. There
is an old, ornamental cast iron fireplace with wooden surround and overmantle,
several power points, overhead light, some built-in shelving, a radiator,
and a large, built in cupboard (which runs back underneath the second
staircase). In all honesty, as if you wouldn't have noticed anyway, we
have to point out that the walls are a vile colour - not guilty, m'lord.
Time permitting, we will try to get round to obliterating the vileness
before moving on - it would look just fine in a plain ivory lace colour,
for instance.
The ceiling is also of particular interest, if you are interested in
convex surfaces. If you must have entirely flat, smooth ceilings and straight
walls with perfect right angles at the corners, then this house isn't
for you. If, on the other hand, you bear in mind what you might look like
after 300 years, then, quite frankly, this house must be regarded as positively
nubile. |
