The kitchen is a really splendid size, and, in addition to all the usual equipment, there is ample space for a table seating 6-8 people. Along one wall and part way round the next, there is a range of very solid cupboards, made mostly from reclaimed pine, with a solid (approx. 3in thick) wooden worktop. This is broken up by the presence of a 4-ring gas hob and culminates down the shorter side in two excellent, round stainless steel sinks, with a mixer tap. Above eye level, and following the line of the cupboards is a simple wooden shelf, fitted with metal hanging poles and loads of butchers hooks - a slightly unconventional arrangement compared to smart modern kitchens, perhaps, but nonetheless, this is extremely useful and means that most equipment is always to hand. The lighting consists of various spotlights, with recessed low-voltage, halogen lights above the range cooker, and there is a quarry tiled floor, ample power points, plumbing for washing machine and also for dishwasher, and two sources of gas supply. The cooker area is an attractive feature, surrounded with colourful, hand-painted tiles, and well-lit. The Smeg range cooker is included in the sale, as is the gas hob inset in the worktop. On either side of the cooker area, there is ample space for a range of appliances or other furniture. One end of the kitchen is next door to the main stairway, and there is a large, useful, walk-in understairs cupboard, accessed via a door in one corner of the kitchen. The cupboard needs quite alot of work to clean it up, and is in a bit of a dilapidated state - we just haven't had time to get round to it yet. However, we use it to store all sorts of stuff, from vintage port to pressure washers, from Calpol to kitchen roll, so it's perfectly serviceable, we just wouldn't want you to feel that you were buying a house with a beautiful cupboard in the kitchen, because this would be mis-leading, and we are not estate agents, so don't need to be. At the other end of the kitchen there are a couple of quarry tile covered steps, leading up to the door into the sunroom. To the left of the door (if you're standing in the kitchen) there is a large, attractive window, with a tiled sill - this is above the sinks. If you've already visited the hallway page, you will know that there are two doors into the sunroom, both along the same wall, one from the end of the hallway and one from the kitchen. You'll find that this is all illustrated on the sunroom page. |
